Logic X Vs Studio One 4
When comparing Logic Pro X vs Studio One 4, the Slant community recommends Studio One 4 for most people. In the question“What are the best DAWs?” Studio One 4 is ranked 2nd while Logic Pro X is ranked 6th.
Studio one is a great option and is the closest thing you’ll find to logic X alongside Cubase. It lacks the video options that logic has if you're looking to score to picture later on. It also doesn’t have a built-in score editor but works alongside another Presonus product called Notion. The transition should be pretty easy for you. Presonus Studio One Windows (32bit/64bit)、Mac OS 両方に対応。 無料版がある。 無料版でもかなり使えます。というか、わたしはずっと無料版ですがなにか? 音質がいいというか、サウンドがいい。. Logic Pro X vs. Studio One の巻.
When a new DAW announces features it can be easy to look at the one you don't own and wish you had those features. This week, Avid, the makers of Pro Tools announced Pro Tools 2018 with what they describe as a host of new features to help music makers work faster.
We know that many Pro Tools users have shown an interest in Studio One 3 with some switching or using it as their composition tool and mixing in Pro Tools. Has Avid done enough to stop more music makers moving to Studio One?
We decided to look at those new features in Pro Tools 2018 and ask if there's anything in Pro Tools 2018 that Studio One can't do, so here we go.
Track Presets
You might be asking yourself 'are you serious?' That's a fair question, Studio One users have been able to save plug-ins preset chains for a long time, in fact so long one would think it's normal to have that feature. Studio One can save track presets and store them in handy groups that can be used either on a current track or used when starting a new track. Pro Tools 2018 offers the option to save content like MIDI loops and audio, which is quite nice, however, it's unlikely you are going to want to use the same content in numerous songs.
One area that Pro Tools does excel is that a user can import a set of tracks, like a small session import into the existing session - again importing of both Studio One and third-party content from AAF/OMF is one area PreSonus needs to deal with soon if Studio One is to be taken seriously by professionals and power users.
MIDI Navigation
Pro Tools 2018 offers the user the option to move around the MIDI notes using the keyboard as well as move MIDI notes using keyboard shortcuts. Again this is already possible with Studio One. One feature is the option to MIDI tab to note, which is similar to the audio option of tab to transient, you can do this in Studio One using the arrow keys in the Music editor window and move one or multiple notes fast using keyboard shortcuts. The MIDI options in Pro Tools are slightly more comprehensive but not enough to make a major workflow difference.
Playlist Comping Enhancements
In Pro Tools 2018 Avid has made track comping more elegant reducing the need to take up screen real estate when comping tracks. It's a nice feature but certainly not something a Studio One user would switch for.
Mixing UI Enhancements
In Pro Tools 2018 EQ curves can now be viewed in miniature in the mix view. Sadly for Pro Tools users viewing the EQ curve is where it ends, in Pro Tools you can't edit the curve in that view, simply look at it.
Compare that to the comprehensive mini view and editing of EQ, comp, gate etc. in Studio One and Avid has a lot of work to do to improve on this clumsy implementation of something many Studio One users take for granted.
Retrospective MIDI Record
A nice feature which in essence captures a MIDI performance even if you forget to press record, this is similar to the audio option you get in Studio One to pre-record audio. To be fair Studio One is one of the only DAWs that does not have retrospective MIDI capture; Logic, Pro Tools, Live and Cubase all have versions of this feature. However, if you want this feature then for $6.99 you can get a much more fully featured retrospective MIDI record option for Studio One using Capture MIDI, an Mac only application which is far more comprehensive and worth checking out.
The updater is easy to use and has the instructions built into it. Serato software update. Click on the link to perform the update.2.You may have symptoms when shifting between FX On/Off, where the LED for the Jog wheel mode may not come back on. Without this update, you will not have LED feedback on the JOG MODE buttons. This fixes issues related to the LEDs for the jog wheel mode and FX bank LEDs.
iLok Cloud Licencing
Now Pro Tools user can use Pro Tools without having to have the physical iLok plugged into their computer and move between computers without having to take their iLok with them. Studio One doesn't need an iLok.. enough said.
Stick or Switch? Our Summary
Pro Tools 2018 has been received very well by Pro Tools users, it has some nice new features, but as you can see from our outline above, there's not much to tempt a Studio One user to Pro Tools, and the real winner for Studio One users is the price of Studio One compared to Pro Tools. If Avid wants to tempt more music makers to Pro Tools then they are going to have to take a serious look at how much it costs.
Of course, none of this analysis takes into account that sometime this year Studio One 4 should be announced, from our discussions with those in the know, Studio One users can expect another fantastic update.
What do you think of the new features in Pro Tools 2018, would you switch from Studio One?
| Hey Guys, new here and working with S1 since 2 weeks. Love it so far but do have some questions that I don't seem to find on google, youtube or on this board by searching. So maybe one of you guys are struggling with the same things. And if I missed it please just send me a link where I can check Maybe it would make sense to set up boards with different Conversions from other DAW because S1 will take over sooner or later. 1. Where can I find the ChannelStrip option like in LPX? The option to save an entire Channelstrip with Instrument, instrument preset as well as all the plug ins? http://logicproexpert.beatsrusproducti. .. resets.jpg 2. I have all my customized Instrument presets in AU. But want to change it to VST so I can use S1 also on a pc. I can save the presets in Sylenth, Spire and Nexus in AU; however I can't open them in the same intstrument in VST. Anyone figured that out? If you have other callenges coming from LPX feel free to add. Have a blessed Easter HH |
| Hi HitzHits, and welcome! I'm not a mac or Logic user, but someone will chime in on Channel Strips similar to what you may have used. The channel strip that comes with Studio One is a general use one, and 'Fat Channel',which is slightly more graphic oriented with cut off filters, and so on. There are two channel strips that can be purchased at the Presonus store, so if your interested, have a look there. Enjoy! Lokeyfly S1 Pro 4.5.x, Laptop: VAIO i7, 8 core, Win 7 64x. | Hey Lokeyfly, thanks for your feedback. I am not looking for a plugin - I am looking for the possibility to save the entire channel with all plugins, fx etc as a preset.. I can't find that option in S1.. |
| Hi Hitz, you can create and save Channel Fx Chains. Hit F1 inside S1 and it calls up the manual. Search for Fx Chains In the mixer, you can select however many channels, select your Fx Chain and all the mixer channels will populate with that Fx chain. You can do this with the drop down menu on one of the selected channels, or drag the Fx Chain from the browser and drop on one channel and all selected channels will populate. If you're looking to do the same with an instrument, you can certainly drag and drop an instrument preset, but what it won't do is automatically set up any pre-configured routing you have from the instrument through the console. I've tried to do this with BFD3 - I can set up BFD3 with all the routing etc configured in BFD3's mixer, however, when I load that preset into S1, S1 will not automatically create the appropriate channels and tracks for me in S1. I still have to manually switch on which channels from BFD3 I want to show up in the console in S1. You can also create Multi instruments, but this is something I don't do or have any need for, so can't help you there. Someone else might chime in here. Not sure if Logic can do that - I have Logic but rarely use it, and never tried doing anything like that. 2011 27' iMac, 2.7 ghz, 24 gig ram, OSX El Capitan 10.11.6 External drives for audio and samples, and lots of backup. | Thanks all for the feedback. Watching the video helped and actually you can do it with sends. I'll have to do some testing but it's kind of what I'm looking for. Now I need some AU VST expert .. |
| The preset issue was one reason that had me question whether to use AU or VST in S1. I too have come from a Logic and have saved many settings for my AU plugins. I mainly save them in the plugin settings themselves so that they travel with the plugin rather than being exclusive to Logic, but still I don't think they can be converted to VST. If they can, I would like to know this too. I decided on VST in S1 mainly because consensus is they are more stable in the long run, plus the MIDI from plugins and multi out. But it would be nice to continue to use recently saved and updated presets in the event I ever have to open Logic, but I guess I'll have to forget that idea if I stay with VST. | Yeah, and when you share projects with other S1 users that are on PC (I'm on mac) it will work for them as well, where as AU will only work Mac to Mac. I still couldn't find out how to get the preset from AU to VST.. kinda sucks for such a great DAW. Further, I have to admit that the stability of S1 is really bad compared to Logic. Logic would always work without any problems whereas S1 will crash at least 4 to 5 times during a session without any reason or freeze my mac. Also sometimes loading a song is like mission impossible. I hope this will get better with updates. I would hate to go back to Logic.. I love S1 |
| HitzHits wroteLogic would always work without any problems whereas S1 will crash at least 4 to 5 times during a session without any reason or freeze my mac. That's not normal. I am on Mac too and the S1 does not crash at all here. Really never. I were you, I would try to narrow down the problem, to see whether the crashes could come from some plugins you use. | Converting AU presets to vst presets is a problem that has nothing to do with StudioOne. It is simply a problem. Do a google search on the topic and you will find discussions going back 10 years on folks trying to sort this. There's a python script out there by a guy named aMused supposedly.. Why this is such a hard thing and why no one has jumped on the market opportunity to develop a simple inexpensive fix is beyond me. As to stability, S1 is super stable for me. That many crashes would seem to indicate something else is out of whack. If you have not noticed a pattern (does it seem to happen when you are doing a certain class of operations) it could be some weirdo thing like a corrupted font! It is very frustrating though I'm sure.
