Ableton and Serato announced The Bridge at NAMM 2010 in Anaheim, California.

The Bridge brings tight synchronization and remote control of Ableton Live to Serato Scratch Live's interface. Using The Bridge. To get The Bridge, download the latest versions of Ableton Live or Suite and Serato Scratch Live. Open both programs at the same time with Rane hardware attached to.

Can I use my own soundcard when running The Bridge? Can I use Ableton Live's cue function when using The Bridge? How many tracks/scenes does the Ableton View in Serato Scratch Live show? Do both Ableton Live and Serato Scratch Live have to be running at the same time to save my Serato mixes as Ableton Live Sets (.als)? Aug 18, 2010  This image, via The Bridge 1.0 manual, reveals the “Ableton Panel,” by which Live appears as a sort of virtual device inside the Serato DJ app. We’ve known since January that Ableton Live, the live production software, and Serato Scratch Live, a leading virtual vinyl and DJ app, were to be connected with new software. What is Scratch Live 2? Scratch Live 2 adds more decks, DJ FX and two way interaction with Ableton Live with new protocol called “The Bridge”. Inside Serato Scratch Live 2, we now bring four new Display Modes that allow you to choose a range of new screen layouts with 2, 3 or 4 deck control. At the foot of the Ableton side of The Bridge you launch both programs and an Ableton Live Transport Track appears in your Serato library. Dragging the Transport Track on to one of the virtual decks means you're now ready to use the deck to control Ableton Live's tempo and playback. The Bridge is designed to span the gap between music production and DJing, creating a natural link between Ableton Live and Serato Scratch Live/ITCH.

The Bridge works in both directions:

  • Ableton to Serato – The Bridge provides Ableton Transport Control (ATC), giving DJs turntable-style control of their own multitrack productions. DJs can simply drag an Ableton Live Set onto one of the decks in Scratch Live or ITCH and use their turntables, CDJ or ITCH controller to control the transport.
  • Serato to Ableton – The Bridge provides the ultimate mixtape creation tool. DJs can perform mixes in Serato Scratch Live or ITCH and save them as an Ableton Live Set. This way, the DJ can still perform the mix—better than cut and pasting it together in a DAW—but also has detailed editing options.

No release date has been set yet – but The Bridge will be free for anyone who owns registered versions of both Serato Scratch Live/ITCH hardware and Ableton Live 8 or Suite 8.

Scratch Live 2.5 Bug Fixes

Alongside these key features Scratch Live 2.5 also includes bug fixes to continue the unparalleled level of stability and performance that Serato software is known for.

Some examples of the bug fixes are:

  • Mixtape .als recordings now work with Ableton Live 9.
  • Fixed a bug where the beatgrid lock wasn't being saved and loaded to/from the file; it was only being saved to the database.
  • The Sixty-Eight record source is now correctly loaded from preferences.
  • Fixed a bug where the CDJ-350 was sending both MIDI and HID messages which meant it could possibly fire two different Scratch Live events at the same time.
  • Fixed a bug where the DJFX deck assignments wouldn't save to preferences if going from being 'on' initially, to 'off'.
